Nick's First Day

On The Road

How many women drive themselves to the hospital to have a baby?

Running a little late...

We were supposed to be there by 8:30 (the clock says 8:49). I hope they don't start without us!

But it's not our fault!

Finally at the LPCH front door.

All dressing-gowned up and no place to go

Watching the clock...

We were scheduled to go into surgery at 10 but we're running a little late.

Even dad is getting into the act

(They made me where these silly things.)

Now we're all hooked up to the monitor

This is the monitor tape that displays baby's heartbeat. By the way, it's supposed to vary a lot.

Here's the digital version, both mom and baby.

According to Jo's vital signs she's pretty relaxed right now...but we all know that's not going to last long.

Checking up on baby...

This is the monitor that is listening in to hear what is going on in there.

Dr. Lock...a name from the past

This was one of the doctors that helped us through the first pregnancy and birth. He was a student/resident then. Ramona thinks he looks a little like Vince.

Check out the blood pressure now!

Mom's really starting to get nervous as the time passes. We're now waiting for the anesthesiologist to come and make things 'better'.

Almost 10:30

Just waiting for things to get started

A different set of clocks...guess where we are now.

It has started

As the clocks show in the previous photo, it's been a little while since the last photo. We've gone from the 'waiting' room into the operating room. And the anesthesiologist took some time to put in the spinal tube for her epidural.

All hooked up...and looking REALLY nervous

Jo was really reacting to her surroundings at this point. She had gotten her anesthesia and was just waiting for it to take affect. While she lay there a lot was obviously going through her mind. But the anesthesiologist gave her something else to help calm her down shortly after this.

'Nuf Said!

It has begun!

The screen in front of Jo is to keep her from seeing the surgery. But, yes, she is awake during the whole procedure.

And here he is...Nicholas James

Obviously he looks a lot better today...but this is within seconds of birth.

That looks a little better

Now they're trying to clean him up a bit

Looking a bit more presentable

Jo is still on the operating table behind us while they clean up Nick and give him some oxygen to get him started.

Mom and Son

After they had him wrapped up they brought him over to officially meet Mom.

And one with all of us...minus Miss Stella who's in school

Another good Mom and Son

The OR gear

This is all the 'stuff' that they had in the OR for Ramona. She was hooked up to a fair amount of it, but some of it was also there just in case.

The Doctors

She had two female surgeons and they were just great (left and right.) The other person is the surgical nurse.

Our nurse

That's our nurse in the background. She was actually assigned to Ramona to help prep us and in recovery. The other nurses were there for other specific purposes.
